Well I’m glad. Thank you! Xoxo
“Hey, are you okay?” Tara asked her best friend who seemed to be tender to the touch.
“Uh. Yeah. I’m just sore. I slept wrong or something.” Gaga whispered, feeling each wound under her clothes. She felt absolutely terrible for hiding her addiction from Tara, but without it, she wouldn’t be able to go on. It kept her sane. It kept her alive. Yes, it filled her with an overwhelming sense of guilt and sadness, but it filled the deepest darkest parts of her with satisfaction.
“Oh. Well do you want me to give you a massage or something?” Tara asked with that smile Gaga always loved lighting up her face.
“Nah, I’m alright. I’ll just go home and lay down for a while.” Gaga responded, getting up from the restaurant table.
“Okay, do you want me to drive you or do you want Ed to come pick you up?” Tara asked.
“I’ll just call Ed. You can go ahead and go home.” Gaga said with a saddened expression.
“If that’s what you want. I do need to go see Derrick today anyways. Well I’ll see you soon!” Tara said giving Gaga an excruciatingly hurtful hug.
Gaga waved and watched the love of her live walk away. She developed an unforgettable crush on Tara, but Tara’s boyfriend always got in the way. The night Gaga was going to ask Tara out, she met Derrick at the bar they were at. It broke Gaga’s heart and that was the night she was introduced to her diabolic solution.
Gaga called Ed and rode home. She was sure Tara was having a wonderful time, so she didn’t bother to text her. She just went and lied down hoping the poisonous urges would lift. But just as she predicted, they didn’t. Tears filled her eyes as she entered the bathroom. It seemed to turn into her home away from home. With shaking hands she reached behind the toilet and grabbed the taped box. Inside were her “friends.” All 12 of them.
“I’m sorry…” She muttered under her breath as she picked up her favorite blade. With tears sliding off her face she pulled the piece of metal across her thigh.
Numbness. That’s all she felt. Physically and emotionally. Her mind went blank as she repeated the motion.
She opened her eyes after what seemed to be a lifetime and took in her damage. She watched the blood drip from her legs and felt the sick satisfaction. The pain she was feeling on the outside drowned out the pain on the inside.
Gaga turned on the shower and washed off her wounds as best she could. She grabbed some gauze and some ace bandages and wrapped up her legs.
Just as Gaga made her way to her bed, the phone rang.
“Tara” lit up the screen and Gaga’s heart began racing. She swallowed her fear and picked up the phone, “Hello?”
“Hey Gaga! Did I wake you? You sound kind of tired.” Tara exclaimed.
“No… I’m just ready to go to bed is all…” Gaga whispered, feeling her body weaken.
“Are you sure? You don’t sound good.” Tara observed.
Gaga began to feel her mind slip into a state of unconsciousness. She wasn’t sure if it was from the pain or the blood loss. Either way, it wasn’t good.
“I’m just… I’m just tired… T-Tara I’ve got to… I’ve got to go…” Gaga barely whispered and hung up. She lied down and quickly “fell asleep.”
Gaga opened her eyes and immediately felt the pain in her legs; they throbbed with every move. She checked her phone and saw a text from Tara: “Hey Gaga. You didn’t sound good on the phone so I’m going to stop by tomorrow. I’d come over now but me and Derrick aren’t doing good. I promise I’ll make it up. Love you! Xoxo - Tara.”
Pain filled Gaga’s heart as she read the message. How could she do this to Tara? How could she do this to herself? Tears streamed down her face as she made her way to the bathroom. A shower would be the most painful thing right now, but it would stall having to see Tara.
After many minutes and much pain, she finally got her clothes removed and the shower on. Just as she opened the door to the shower, she heard a knock at the door. She heard Tara’s smooth voice confirm her identity through the door; with as much force as she could muster she yelled, “Come in, I’m in the shower!”
And quickly stepped in. Pain rushed through her body as she squeezed the door handle hoping it would help the pain. She began to sob as we emotional pain caught with her physical pain.
Tara walked in and took a seat at the edge of the bed. She scanned the room and found a few pieces of paper folded up on the table. At first she thought it was mail, but there was no envelope around. Reluctant to invade her best friends space, she got up and grabbed the papers.
It was a letter written to herself…
I’m not sure if I’ll ever give this to you. But I just need to get some things off my chest… I can’t get you off my mind… Your smile shines brighter than any city. Your voice is smoother than any fabric. You’re more beautiful than any piece of art. I’ve tried to push my feelings away. But I can’t this time, Tara. I’m sorry… But I love-“
Her reading was cut off by the sound of the door opening.
Gaga stood there with pure shock and pain in her eyes.
“You didn’t… Tara…” Gaga whispered.
Tara stood there, in some way hoping the situation would go away. But it didn’t.
“Gaga I’m sorry… I was curious… I didn’t know you felt like that…” Tara muttered, stepping closer to Gaga.
Pure embarrassment filled Gaga as she began to cry.
“Please don’t cry… Please.” Tara whispered. But with every work Gaga broke even more.
With one swift motion Gaga rushed to the door. But just as she got to the door, her Ace Bandage unfastened and fell out of her loose pant leg along with her bloody gauze.
With a shocked expression Tara spoke, “Gaga… What happened?”
“It’s nothing… I just uh… I just had an accident.” Gaga stuttered, struggling to come up with an excuse.
Tara knew better. She’s seen the scars before but never thought it was still going on.
“Gaga, can I see your legs? Please?” Tara ask, grabbing Gaga’s arm with as much compassion as possible.
“Tara no. I told you, it was an accident. I’d like you to go home now. I think I’ve been embarrassed enough for one day.” Gaga spat.
“Gaga please… I want to help you… But I can’t if you just shut me out. At least let me stay here tonight. I want you to be safe.” Tara whispered.
“Okay…” Gaga muttered.
Tara picked up the fallen bandage, “Can I help you put this on?” She asked.
Gaga nodded and cautiously pulled her pajama pants down.
Tara’s heart stopped. What she saw in front of her terrified her more than anything else. And the worst part… It was her fault. She didn’t spend enough time with her… She put Derrick first all the time. Tara wrapped the bandage around her leg and then wrapped her arms around her fragile friend. Tara let Gaga’s warmth in and felt the love. Without even realizing it, she felt it back… She always had a crush on Gaga, but always thought she didn’t feel the same way.
Gaga embraced Tara. Every single thing Gaga felt, she didn’t want to let go.
“Okay, you need some rest. I know you’re exhausted.” Tara said, leading Gaga over to the bed.
Gaga climbed in and made sure to leave enough room for Tara.
Tara pulled the covers up over Gaga, being careful not to hurt her.
“Hey Tara? Can you… Can you lay beside me while I fall asleep?” Gaga asked with a desperate look on her face.
“There’s no where else I’d rather be.” Tara responded, climbing in behind her.
Tara wrapped her arms around Gaga and made sure not to let go.
Gaga embraced Tara’s touch. She felt her warmth and felt her heart beat faster.
This is where she was supposed to be, and she had no intention of moving.
